Aim for this Working Bee:
For our first "working bee" of the year, we'll be bringing our working bee forward one week to run an education session on the ecology and geology of the Cape Paterson foreshore. The reason for bringing this forward is to take advantage of a morning low tide. Our working bee will comprise a rock ramble between the Bay Beach and Cape Paterson itself. We will finish back at the Wonthaggi Life Saving Club barbeque for lunch. Advice will be given two days in advance if the event will be cancelled due to bad weather.

Our resident geologist Kevin Hill gave an outstanding tour of our beachfront from the Bay Beach to the edge of First Surf Beach. In perfect weather conditions, we learned of the geological forces that shape and have formed our beaches, rock shelves, reefs and cliffs. Who ever knew that the red rocks and seams on our rock shelves were formed from high pressure subterranean water seeping to the surface and that the black basalt differs so much from the ubiquitous grey sandstone on our foreshore. Many thanks to Kevin for educating up to 30 of us on an aspect of our coast that we hardly knew about.
